Diego Godin shuns Man United for Inter Milan

 

Diego Godin has ‘agreed to join Inter Milan on a two-year deal’ after being allowed to leave on a free transfer by Atletico Madrid.

The 32-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last summer and even turned down a deadline day move to Old Trafford in August.

The move will see the experienced Uruguayan centre back leave Atletico in the summer as he is set to sign a two-year deal which includes ‘an option to include a third’, according to Sky Sport Italia

His move to the Serie A will bring an end to his trophy-laden career at Atletico where he won La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana.

Godin also helped Diego Simeone’s side win the Europa League twice while winning the UEFA Super Cup on three different occasions.

The defender came close to winning the Champions League with Atletico twice but finished as runners-up to Real Madrid both times.

Godin has represented his country 125 times and has played at the last three World Cups for Uruguay.

meanwhile Highly-rated teenager Tahith Chong made his Manchester United debut on Saturday after being named on the bench in the 2-0 defeat of Reading in the FA cup .Chong came off the subs’ bench in the 62nd minute to replace fellow attacker Juan Mata.

He was involved in the action soon after making his Old Trafford bow but was given a yellow card for a foul during the match.

The 18-year-old winger has made United’s matchday squad already this season, but was an unused substitute for the Champions League home defeat by Juventus in October.
