Don’t expect any miracle—FCT athletes tell minister

Athletes representing the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT) at the ongoing 19th National Sports Festival holding in Abuja have told the FCT Minister, Mohhammed Bello not to expect any miracle from them due to the poor feeding arrangement put in place by the Social Development Secretariat.

Sportinglife.ng gathered that the feeding arrangement made for the fct athletes clashes with the time of events as the athletes are camped in Area 10, Athletes Hostel but their feeding arrangement is being provided from caterers who are accommodated in Kubwa, an outskirt of Abuja which is not good for the athletes.

Director of Sports (FCT) Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedima , when contacted, said the social development secretariat have noted the athletes complain and are working to address the issue by ensuring that the athletes are fed on time to enable them take part in their events.

“We are working hard to ensure that our athletes are in good shape and fed promptly. We want to do well as a host state. Our target is to be among the top four on the medals table at the end of the competition, ” said Onyedima.

Also Olympic Youth Champion Rosemary Chukwuma has dumped FCT for Rivers State, saying that she gave Rivers State her consent to register her for athletic events despite residing in Abuja.

She said the attitude of the Sports administrators in the Teritory will not encourage anyone to represent the city.” I can tell you that , they don’t know how I train and where I sleep, not to talk of incentives to encourage someone and now they want medals from me. I have said no to them and they should allow me to be,”Chukwuma concluded.
