Following the criticisms that has continued to trail Nigeria’s 0-1 loss to Czech Republic in their final pre-World Cup friendly, defender Elderson Echiejile has pleaded with Nigerians not to write off the team ahead of the 2018 Russia FIFA World Cup.

Echiejile, a member of the 23-man team listed by Coach Genor Rohr said the team would pick up before the tournament.

“I want to plead with Nigerians not to write off this team but keep praying and supporting us as there is room for improvement. We need their support to keep us going and by God’s grace we will put smile on your faces,” he said,” he said.

The Belgium-based defender has described the experience of playing at the World Cup as awesome while hoping for a good outing in Russia.

“Every player wants to play at the World Cup and it is a privilege for me to have made the team. As a team, we are learning our lessons quickly and we will work very hard to have a better understanding before the World Cup.”

“Football has really changed a lot now and it also depends on the tactics you are playing against your opponent, who also have different tactics and this is one of the factors in the game, so I think we have learnt one or two things from the matches.”

“The second half against Czech Republic was better but we just have to start our game better, which is very important. So I am appealing to Nigerians that they should not stop supporting and praying for us,” he added.
