Eagles lose 2-1 to England at Wembley

Super Eagles Saturday at the Wembley Stadium lost 2-1 to Three Lions of England in a high profile friendly. The friendly which is being used by both coaches to ascertain the readiness of their teams for the World cup which kicks off June 14 in Russia was watched by about 70,000 spectators who had stormed the stadium to see things for themselves.

England shot into the lead as early as the 7th minute through Cahill and later increased the tally through their captain Harry Kane who was leading out the Lions for the first time in a competitive match after he was handed the captain’s band recently. Eagles appeared uncoordinated in the first half posting only two shots on goal in the entire first half.

However the changes just before the kick off of the first second half with Shehu and Balogun off to be replaced by Ebuehi and Omeruo, as Joel Obi and Onazi also make way to be replaced by Ogu and Etebo fired up the Eagles. Alex Iwobi’s 47th minute goal became a ginger which changed the tempo of the match.

England from that point stopped having an easy run as the Eagles played more purposeful football and recorded impressive moves to the point that captain John Obi Mikel came close to equalising in the 67th minute.  The team maintained a good run till the end of the match.  Eagles will next face Czech Republic in the last friendly match before heading to Russia where they will open their quest for trophy with June 16th tie against Croatia.
