Human Rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has predicted a stormy ride for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their quest to win the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Falana said the winner of the tournament is more likely to come from one of the countries that, unlike Nigeria, have invested heavily in sports.

He said although the players are fully committed, government’s failure to adequately invest in sports, means that the team’s performances are more “of chance.”

“We will do well, but the government has refused to invest in sports. Talk of the Super Eagles, you only gather the team when we are having a tournament, global tournament, whereas other nations practice regularly,” Falana told sportingLife.ng.

On whether the Super Eagles can win the World Cup, Falana said: “They will try but it is difficult to win the World Cup because you are competing against countries that have invested heavily in promoting sports. Ours is a game of chance.”
