Eagles’ll be ripe for World cup title in 2022-Jalla

Eagles will be in a vintage position to win the world cup in Qatar 2022, President National Association of Nigerian footballers (NAFF) Harrison Jalla has declared.

Jalla who was reacting to a plateful of issues including the 30-man provisional list released by Coach Gernot Rohr, the friendly matches lined up ahead of the world cup and the team’s chances in Russia after being pitches against Croatia, Iceland and Argentina, maintained that Nigeria parades a relatively young team that is undergoing gestation period.

The team according to him will fully blend and mature enough to clinch the World cup in the next four years, provided the nucleus of the current team is kept intact.

“This is a young team that is undergoing gestation period. If the nucleus of the team is kept together I see them winning the cup in 2022, that is not to say they will not do well in Russia but I see this team as a team of the future,” he said

Jalla’s submission appears to tally with that of Chairman League Mangement Company, Shehu Dikko who in a recent chat with Sportinglife.ng declared that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is building Eagles beyond the world Cup in Russia

According to Dikko who doubles as member of FIFA stakeholders Committee, the Glass House is looking at a team that will not only rise to the occasion in Russia but remain a reference point and a force to be reckoned with after the World cup. “Just as we are collaborating with the corporate world to build a platform that will transcend the world cup so also we are building a team that can go as far as possible in Russia and be ready to maintain the tempo afterwards,” he said

Super Eagles coach Gernot  Rohr who recently sealed a two year contract extension will after the world cup take the Eagles to the next Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon in 2019.  The German tactician before taking over Eagles has previous handled the national teams of Gabon, Niger and Burkina Fasso.
