Nigeria’s Efetobor Apochi made quick work of Raymond ‘KingKong’ Ochieng in their heavyweight fight at the Minneapolis Armory, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA on Saturday.
Undefeated in seven fights, Apochi knocked out the 42-year-old experienced Kenya in the second round of their eight round fight.
The fight was an under-card of the World Boxing Council (WBC) World Super Middleweight Title showdown between Anthony Dirrell and Avni Yildirim.
Apochi was scheduled to fight Earl Newman in a eight-round cruiser-weight bout but Newman had to pull out due to an injury he sustained on his way to the airport for the fight.
Apochi’s manager and promoter promoted him to fight in the heavyweight division and Ochieng was available and ready to battle.
Apochi landed flush shots on the inside of a lunging Ochieng in the first round. In the second round, Apochi used a hard right hand for the second knockdown and counter right for a third and final knockdown, resulting in a technical-knockout.
Meanwhile, Nigeria-born light-heavyweight prospect Dan Azeez beat Stanislav Eschner from Czech Republic via a 5th round knockout at York Hall, London on Friday.
The 29-year-old has now set his sights on a shot at the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) Southern Area title for his next fight.
