Ekundayo eyes World Title Fight in Lagos

England- based Nigerian boxer, Larry “The Natural” Ekundayo has expressed his interest in fighting for a world title in Lagos next year. 

England- based Nigerian boxer, Larry “The Natural” Ekundayo has expressed his interest in fighting for a world title in Lagos next year.

The current Africa Boxing Union and International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Welterweight Champion said this at the Lagos Boxing hall of Fame Gym in Lagos where he visited the Chairman, Olawale Edun as part of activities for his six-day tour of Nigeria.

He said, “I would like to fight for the world title in Nigeria because the country is the Mecca of boxing in Africa and we want to bring some really great boxers to the fans, which will help in the current revival of professional boxing in the country.

“Our plan is to create awareness and we are in talks with the authorities and sports stakeholders in Nigeria on the economic, sporting and social benefits hosting a world title fight in Lagos will create”. The 36-year-old added.
Ekundayo also called on the private and public sectors to invest in boxing in Nigeria  by establishing academies.

The Chairman, LBHF, Olawale Edun praised Ekundayo on his boxing prowess, saying he is a joy to watch and deserves all the support he needs.

Edun, a former Commissioner of Finance in Lagos said: “Larry Ekundayo is dream, If you watch him, he is an artist and not a gra gra type of boxer. His has a wonderful style of boxing and is a joy to watch in the ring.”

“He deserves our support and by God’s grace he will get much more of our support and he will bring glory and fame to his fatherland.”

Larry Ekundayo also had a sparring session with his trainer, former Commonwealth light welterweight champion, Segun Ajose and was accompanied by Ekundayo’s commercial agent, Ben Gray and Bimbo Folayan, Executive Director, Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investment Summit (NDDIS).
