Emmanuel Amuneke loses dad

Michael Amuneke, father of former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke died in Lagos on Wednesday after a brief illness.

In a telephone chat with the former Barcelona star yesterday, he confirmed the sad news to SportingLife.ng

“My father unfortunately passed away on Wednesday,” he revealed with a quiet tone. “Ï thank God that he lived a good life and we will do our best to celebrate his legacy.”

The Funeral arrangements have not been concluded but Amuneke promised to communicate further details in the nearest future.

Amuneke played 27 times for Nigeria, scoring nine goals, and was named African Footballer of the Year in 1994 after he helped the Super Eagles win the African Nations Cup (AFCON) in Tunisia.

As Coach, he led Nigeria to win the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2015 and was recently head coach of Sudanese clubside, Al Khartoum SC.
