England to make Eriksen shirt presentation before Denmark semi-final

England are planning a shirt presentation to pay tribute to Christian Eriksen before Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final clash with Denmark.

Inter Milan midfielder Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the first half of the Danes’ opening Group B match against Finland in Copenhagen last month.

The 29-year-old was resuscitated before being transferred to a nearby hospital, where thankfully he recovered well and was later discharged after having a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) fitted.

Denmark have rallied superbly in key star Eriksen’s absence, bouncing back from successive defeats to reach the last four of the European Championship for the first time since their shock 1992 triumph after impressive wins over Russia, Wales and the Czech Republic.

Eriksen spent seven years at Tottenham between 2013-20 and England captain Kane is pleased to be able to show his support for his former team-mate before Wednesday’s huge tie at Wembley.

“I’m good friends with Chris and of course it will be sad not to see him there as he has been a big part of their success over the years,” Kane said.

“It was a terrible thing that happened to him. The main thing is that he is doing well and he’s recovering well. I’m sure he’ll be rooting for Denmark more than he’ll be rooting for me, for sure!

“There will be a presentation to show our support from all of us here at England.”

England boss Gareth Southgate added: “We were obviously watching when it all happened and unfolded and were all moved and anxious about what we were seeing. It’s brilliant to hear that he’s recovering well.

“Given the fact that he played in England and was such an impressive player and person in the Premier League, even more so we wanted to have that recognition for him and his family.”
