Enyimba, Plateau United Get CAF Champions League Opponents

Nigeria’s representatives in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League have been handed their opponents for the preliminary stage of the competition after the draws were concluded on Monday.

While Enyimba of Aba will face Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso in the first leg, Plateau United will battle Simba SC of Tanzania.

Both matches between November 27 to 29, 2020 while the reverse fixtures will hold between 4th to 6th December 2020.

Recalled Enyimba defeated Rahimo last year  5-1 on aggregate in the same stage of the competition.

Enyimba remains the only Nigeria side that has won the trophy doing it in 2003 after beating Ismaili of Egypt 2-1 on aggregate.

They successfully defended their title against Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in a penalty shoot-out after both legs ended 3-3 on aggregate.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek, W.A.C. and Raja from Morocco and Esperance of Tunisia will begin their campaign from the second round.

Others are T.P. Mazembe and AS Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea’s Horoya A.C., Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Angola’s Agosto.

Heartland of Owerri were the last Nigerian club to play in the final in 2009 where they lost to T.P. Mazembe on away goals rule.
