EPL: Fofana on crutches as Chelsea boss Potter ‘concerned’

Wesley Fofana appeared in tears as he was forced off during Chelsea’s Champions League win against AC Milan.

Fofana hobbled off the pitch with an injury during the first half against AC Milan.

The summer signing was then later spotted using crutches to leave the stadium.

The centre-back enjoyed a dream start as he opened the scoring on 24 minutes but his night turned sour soon after.

The France international suffered an apparent knee injury that brought him to tears just 14 minutes later.

The clearly emotional 21-year-old couldn’t continue and he was ultimately replaced by Trevoh Chalobah.

When asked for an update in his post-match interview, manager Graham Potter confirmed Fofana would undergo a scan on Thursday to discover the extent of his injury, calling the incident the “most disappointing thing of the night”.

However, the 47-year-old later admitted he was concerned by the initial signs of the youngster’s problem and could only keep positive as they face an anxious wait to find out the seriousness of his injury.

“We don’t know yet, we scan tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I wouldn’t want to speculate on it now but we’re concerned and hope for the best,” Potter told reporters.
