EPL: Former Liverpool goalkeeper Westerveld slams Ronaldo’s behaviour

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld has slammed the behaviour of Cristiano Ronaldo Wednesday night.

An unused sub for victory over Tottenham, Ronaldo left the stadium before the final whistle.

Westerveld commented: “This is typical of Ronaldo. He also did this when Ángel Di Maria used to dribble, pass six men and deliver it ready for Ronaldo. Then Ronaldo sprinted alone to the corner flag for himself. This is the same.

“He was not allowed in, but Ten Hag didn’t need him to bring him in either. Then you have to be happy for your team. Three points and you’re done.”

Ronaldo had already worked himself into trouble with Ten Hag by going home at halftime in the preseason match against Rayo Vallecano. Then the manager said it was ‘unacceptable’.

“Erik ten Hag is very clear about that: everything revolves around the team,” Westerveld adds. “He had trouble with it before when Ronaldo went home earlier. Then he was still mild by saying that Ronaldo was not the only one. He can not ignore this.”
