EPL: I must fight for my place, says Arsenal fullback Tomiyasu

Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu has vowed that he will not give up on starting for the club.

The Japanese international may find it difficult to get his regular starting spot back after missing the early part of the season.

Central defender Ben White slotted in at right-back at the start of the campaign, and has not put a foot wrong in the position since.

“For me it doesn’t matter which competition I play. Even if it is Europa League or a cup game, I want to help the team on the pitch,” Tomiyasu stated, per Evening Standard, after he played in the Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt.

“But if you want to get back your position you have to be much, much better. Today was not my top, top performance so I am not satisfied with my performance.

“If you are playing in a big club, like Arsenal, there is always competition with the other players. Competition makes me a lot better. To be fair, he (White) is doing very well, he is doing fantastic. I need to learn from him a lot of things during the training sessions as well.”
