EPL: Justin set to return after year-long absence

Leicester City’s right back James Justin is set to return to the squad following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played since picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Brighton & Hove Albion in an FA Cup game in February last year.

“He came through very well. It was initially getting the first appearance in (for the under-23 side). He felt good in the game. He has trained very well and has looked strong, and we feel he can be drip-fed into the games,” Rodgers told reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game at Burnley.

“He should be available in the squad, and we’ll take a final look tomorrow. To have him back is such a huge plus for us.”

Leicester will also welcome back Patson Daka, Luke Thomas, Caglar Soyuncu and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after their league game at Everton on Tuesday was postponed due to a number of Covid-19 cases and injuries in the squad.

“The game against Everton, you have to have 13 players and a goalkeeper. We didn’t have that, we had eight. With returning players, we can get on with the fixtures,” added Rodgers.

Leicester are in the market for a centre back to bolster their defence but Rodgers said the club would only bring in someone if they suit the team’s style.

“It’s a difficult one for us. We have a pressing need to get a player at the back. It’s important to get the right profile. It can’t be someone just for the sake of it, it has to be someone who can be the right player for us.”

Leicester are 10th in the league standings with 25 points from 18 games, 14 points ahead of 18th-placed Burnley, who have a game in hand.
