EPL: Liverpool ‘could miss out on title’

...if coronavirus cuts short Premier League season

Liverpool have reportedly been given ‘no guarantees’ they will be awarded the Premier League title if the coronavirus crisis curtails the top-flight season.

There are growing fears over the virus that is spreading at an alarming rate across the globe.

English football is yet to be affected but Newcastle have already taken action by instructing their players not to shake hands with each other in training.

UEFA have admitted they are in a sense of limbo over Euro 2020 which is set to be held in a host of cities across the continent.

And, according to the Telegraph, there is no regulation in place for such a scenario in the Premier League should the campaign be cut short.

As well as Liverpool not being assured of the title, it would also mean the bottom three clubs may escape relegation from the top flight depending on the outcome of likely crisis talks.

Liverpool currently sit 22 points clear at the top and denying them a first title in the modern era would be highly controversial.

Given the millions of pounds at stake for remaining in the division and qualifying for Europe, the Premier League would have a headache as to how to resolve the situation.
