EPL: Welbeck’s goal help Brighton pip Leicester at the Amex

Brighton continued their fantastic start to the season with a 2-1 win over mid-table Leicester on Sunday.

Graham Potter oversaw just nine Premier League wins last campaign – four at home – but added Leicester to a list of 2021/22 scalps already including Burnley, Watford and Brentford.

After winning against Watford and losing to Everton at the Amex, the Seagulls hosted Leicester with genuine hope of avenging their two losses against the Foxes last season and beating them for the first time in the Premier League.

Neal Maupay’s first-half penalty boosted those aspirations before Danny Welbeck doubled their lead in the 50th minute.

Jamie Vardy threatened to inspire a comeback with a goal on the hour mark but it turned out to be a mere consolation for the Europa League side, who had two goals disallowed for offside against Harvey Barnes.
