Etebo signs N3b Stoke deal

.becomes Potters first signing

Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo has signed for English side Stoke City on a five-year deal.

The 22-year-old who landed in Russia on Monday night with the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 FIFA World
Cup becomes the Potters first signing ahead of the 2018/19 Championship season.

Stoke paid £6.3m ( N3,045,000,330.68b) for the Feirense of Portugal star who spent the second half of
last season on loan at Las Palmas. Etebo shined in La Liga and caught the eye with breathtaking
performances especially against Barcelona where he went toe-to-toe with five-time Ballon D’Or winner
Lionel Messi.

The Potters hierarchy are still in shock that Etebo who has been capped 14 times for Nigeria chose to
sign for them ahead of more established premier league and Bundesliga outfits.

“We are delighted Etebo has chosen to join Stoke City, becoming our first signing of the summer,” Chief
Executive Tony Scholes told Stoke’s official website.

“I’m particularly pleased that he took the time to look beyond our current league status and understand
who we are as a club before choosing us ahead of current Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.”

Stoke City manager added: “We’re really excited to have got the deal over the line for Etebo. I’m
looking forward to seeing him in a Stoke City shirt as I’m sure our supporters are too.”

Etebo previously played for Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Warri Wolves before
moving to Feirense in 2016 where he made 45 league appearances, scoring seven goals and played 12 times
on loan for Las Palmas last season.

Stoke City were relegated from the premier league last season after a 10-year stay.
