Etebo wants Premier League Return for Stoke City

Ready for Championship challenge

Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo is willing to work hard and return the relegated club back into the Premier League.
Despite their loss and playing the full match against St Pauli in their final pre-season campaign, Etebo has given a few glimpses of what Stoke City fans should expect from him.
To be fair, he can hammer a pass as well. He smashed a volley from the centre-circle out wide to Tom Ince as his side broke on the counter.
But it’s that shot that could grab him headlines as he starts a new chapter of his career in England.
From the glamour of the World Cup and lining up against Lionel Messi, he’s ready for the challenge of the Championship.
He was known for his scoring record coming through the ranks at international level – including four in one game in a win over Japan as Nigeria were on their way to taking bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
But he has also been used in a deeper position, for Las Palmas last season as well as at times at the World Cup in Russia over the summer.
The 22-year-old said: “I see myself around the middle but whatever role I’m asked to play is not a problem.
“I didn’t score any goals for Las Palmas but before I moved to the Spanish league I scored five goals in the Portuguese league (for Feirense).
“But it’s going to be a long season in the Championship so let’s see how it goes.”
He said: “I’m fine, everything is good. I’m loving the club and most importantly I’ve had a really good welcome. I just can’t wait for the season to start now and let’s see how it’s going to go.
“It’s not going to be easy for us this season. The Championship is a tough league and everybody wants to win, they will come at you very strong and pre-season has been important because you have to be strong, you have to be fit, you have to push.
“You play Saturday and Tuesday, it’s very difficult – but once you can suppress those difficulties, then trust me, everything will be fine. It’s up to us to make sure we do our best and try to get back to the Premier League.
“Stoke is a club that should be in the Premier League and that’s why we really need to work hard this season.”
That hard work started after just a short holiday between seasons and you won’t hear him complaining about that.
“A three-week break is enough for me because I still have to keep in my head that the season is going to kick off soon and I’ve wanted to have that focus,” he said. “Three weeks was enough.
That all starts in earnest next Sunday with a trip to Leeds United, where Stoke will be backed by a sell-out away support.
Etebo said: “Everybody wants to win and have a good challenge and it’s important that you are because we need to know our weak points, our strong points to prepare for the league properly.”
