Euro 2020 postponed until next summer amid worldwide coronavirus
This summer’s European Championship has been postponed until next year as the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc on the footballing calendar.
UEFA convened a meeting on Tuesday with leading lights from the continent’s various authorities – and the international tournament was high on the agenda.
Domestic leagues around Europe are currently postponed and face a race against time to conclude their current seasons, with many believing the postponement of Euro 2020 would allow them the freedom to delay their fixtures until the summer.
And UEFA are understood to have agreed to postpone the international tournament, with a new date set for next summer, according to the Norwegian FA.
A statement from the Norwegian FA read: “UEFA has decided that the European Championship is postponed to 2021. It will be played from 11 June to 11 July next year. More information coming.”
