A serious injury to Danny Welbeck stopped Alexi Iwobi and Arsenal teammates from celebrating their qualification to the round of 32 stage of the Europa League on Thursday.
The Nigerian international who was in action in both halves consoled the injured Arsenal striker as he was taken off the pitch.
Welbeck was stretchered off during the Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon after suffering what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.
Oxygen was administered before the forward was carried off wearing a protective boot on his right leg.
The England international was consoled by former Manchester United teammate Nani as he was taken off with current Gunners teammate Matteo Guendouzi looking shaken following the incident.
It is another harsh blow for Welbeck who has battled through major injuries since joining Arsenal from Manchester United.
Welbeck scored the winning goal in the reverse fixture in Lisbon three weeks ago and was has been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for games against United States and Croatia.
An official update from the club is expected.
