Everton step up interest in PSV defender Dumfries

Everton are looking to make a move for PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries before the European Championships to avoid increased competition for him.

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf have claimed that ‘time is ripe’ as the Toffees look to secure a deal for the right-back.

The 25-year-old is currently with the Holland squad ahead of Euro 2020, and despite having two years left on his current deal at PSV a move seems likely this summer.

Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands is said to be a big fan of Dumfries following his time in charge at PSV.

However, negotiations could be tricky after the Dutch squad moved camps to a hotel that is inaccessible for agents to discuss transfers with their clients.

The Merseyside club are definitely interested in the Dutch international, but it is unclear when they will make their move.

There is a chance that Everton will wait to see how Dumfries does at the Euros before making a formal offer, but a solid tournament could spike his asking price and draw in more potential suitors.

Everton are looking for a long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman, and despite being managerless after Carlo Ancelotti left for Real Madrid, Brands could go ahead and make the signing anyway.

Dumfries and Holland begin their Euro 2020 campaign against Ukraine on Sunday.
