Ex-Eagles star reacts after seeing red in Greek Super League

Ex-Super Eagles star and Aris forward, Brown Ideye, has reacted to the  red card he received during Sunday’s Greek Super League clash against AEK.

The encounter saw Aris  breaking the deadlock after 12 minutes, with Ideye testing AEK goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas off a decent cross from Bruno Gama, but that did not stop Aris from causing AEK more problems.

After the restart, Aris continued to intensify in their bid to score, but their rhythm was torpedoed in the 53rd minute when Ideye was shown a straight red card for a stamp on Mantalos.

Aris players protested and the VAR review looked to raise more questions than answers, but the referee stuck with his decision and reduced Aris to 10 players.

Daniel Larsson netted the opener for Aris in the 64th minutes, but it took a disjointed AEK until 82 minutes to respond, courtesy of a spot-kick converted by captain Petros Mantalos, after Lindsay Rose was adjudged to have fouled Andre Simoes.

Reacting moments after the match, Ideye took to the social media to speak on the bizarre red card he got during the match.

“Last night was a nightmare for me. The act was not intentional and giving a penalty for a 50/50 tackle is unbelievable, even with 10 players we proved we’re the better side, we shall live to fight another day. I rest my case!”
