Ex-Napoli star Folorunsho settles down at Hellas Verona

Michael Folorunsho has expressed his gratitude towards Hellas Verona for providing him with the opportunity to showcase his talent in Serie A.

Folorunsho, who had spent four years on Napoli’s roster without making a first-team appearance, recently secured a season-long loan deal with Verona.

During his tenure with Napoli, Folorunsho was consistently sent on loan spells to various Serie B and Serie C clubs, including Bari, Pordenone, and Reggina.

Notably, his standout performance at Bari last season contributed significantly to their near-promotion to Serie A.

Following a heated competition with Empoli for his signature, Verona ultimately clinched the deal.

The impact of Folorunsho on the team was immediate, as Verona emerged victorious in their first two Serie A games, maintaining a perfect record, shared only with AC Milan and Napoli.

Folorunsho’s influence was particularly conspicuous during the recent game against AS Roma, where Verona stunned Jose Mourinho’s side with a 2-1 victory.

At his official presentation on Monday, Folorunsho seized the opportunity to express his delight at experiencing Serie A for the first time in his career with Verona.

The midfielder conveyed his enthusiasm for the city of Verona and its fans, stating, “I have always been fascinated by the city of Verona and its fans. It is a city that I have always liked very much also from an artistic point of view and these days I am discovering it, I feel really comfortable here.”

Folorunsho continued, “The impact was wonderful, I’m happy to have confidence from the coach, the Director, and the President, I thank them all for this and I hope to repay this confidence on the pitch.

“It’s my first experience in Serie A, and I really want to do well. I feel ready for the category. Mister Baroni counted a lot in my choice, he made the most of me in the past, I know his work and I know how much he can get out of each of us.”

Folorunsho will look to help Verona claim a third straight win when they make the trip to struggling Sassuolo on September 1.
