FA Cup: Ighalo to lead Manchester United’s attack against Norwich

Manchester United will likely recall midfield pair Fred and Scott McTominay to their side to face Norwich City, while Odion Ighalo could make his first start since the restart.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should make changes to the United side that cruised beyond Sheffield United 3-0 in midweek, with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial among those who could be rested.

Sergio Romero has been United’s cup goalkeeper for a number of years and will surely come in for David Gea, while Brandon Williams could step in for Luke Shaw at left back. Solskjaer will then make a decision on whether first team regulars Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford should all start — as they did against the Blades at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The likes of Fred, McTominay, Williams and James will be keen to make an impression if selected.

And with a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at stake, the Norwegian may well pick a strong side at Carrow Road. United will be overwhelming favourites to book their spot in the last four against Daniel Farke’s side, the Premier League’s bottom club.

Solskjaer admitted in his pre-match press conference that there would be some rotation on Saturday evening (5.30pm kick off). He also hinted that Jesse Lingard could make his first appearance since the lockdown.

“With the long layoff we’ve had, looking after the players is one of our jobs and, as you say rotation,” Solskjaer said. “We played Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday again, the heat. There’ll be a few changes.

“If you want to be a part of a winning Man United team you have to make a couple of changes, but that’s the situation we’re in.

“We all agreed on we’re going to try and finish the season and we’re going to do our best to put performances on and make sure players are safe.”

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are the only confirmed injury absentees. United’s next Premier League game is away at Brighton on Tuesday.

Predicted Man United XI: Romero; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; James, Fernandes, Rashford, Ighalo.
