Falcons’ Monday confident Washington Spirit move will elevate career
Super Falcons striker Gift Monday believes her recent switch to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Washington Spirit will significantly enhance her international prospects.
Monday joined the American club from Spanish side UD Tenerife last month and quickly made an impression, netting two goals in her first three league appearances under coach Jonatan Giraldez.
Speaking with Sports Boom, the 23-year-old expressed confidence that playing in a more competitive environment would benefit her performance for Nigeria.
“This move will definitely impact my game with the Super Falcons. Playing in such a competitive environment helps you grow mentally and physically,” she said.
While reflecting on her development, Monday also acknowledged areas she hopes to improve further.

“My positioning and finishing. I improved a bit in Spain, but I know I can do better. I’m still growing, and I need to perfect those parts of my game,” she added.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Monday emphasized her focus on adapting to the league and strengthening team chemistry.
“My personal goal this season is to understand the league—understand the game, my teammates, and make them understand my kind of football too,” she said. “It’s all about building that understanding.
“I want to bring my talent and use my quality to help the team, especially in attack.”
