Falcons to play China, Canada in four-Nation tournament in January

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be involved in a Four-Nation tournament in China from January 14 which kick starts preparations ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

SportingLife.ng gathered from a source close to the team that the players penciled for the trip to the Asian country have been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation as regards their traveling arrangements.

Our source could however not say whether the head coach,  Francis Dennerby intends to add more players to the team that won the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations or he will just retain the same set of players for the competition.

“That I can’t say for now. But what l know is that the players have been contacted by the team secretary. They want to know if the players will like to fly from Nigeria or from their respective base to China,” said the source.

“I am sure in the coming days we would have a clearer picture,” he further added.

Recalled that as the girls returned from Ghana a fortnight ago, the NFF through its president, Amaju Melvin Pinnick said friendly matches in China and Cyprus have been lined up for the team.

“As you know, there are only two free windows before the World Cup, but we decided that instead of playing friendly matches the team will embark on an invitational tournament to boost their preparations.

“I can confirm to you that come January 14 next year the team will be heading to Asia where they will play the likes of Korea who happen to be in our group, China and Canada who are among the biggest nations when it comes to women’s football,” Pinnick said.

Nigeria have drawn in Group A against host nation France, Norway and the Korea Republic for the World Cup.
