Fayele, Odusanya hit quarter at Asoju Oba Cup

Defending champions and top seeds David Fayele and Bose Odusanya continued their dominance in the men and women singles after qualifying to the quarterfinal stage at the 51st Asoju Oba Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup holding at Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Southpaw Fayele will be facing his biggest test when he battles former national junior star Joseph Osendukwu in one of the quarterfinal matches today while Odusanya was tested in the quarterfinal tie against Bose Akinsete

Despite winning the first three games at 11-9, 11-8, 15-13 to take a 3-0 lead, Odusanya was dazed when he opponent levelled up the match with 8-11, 7-11, 8-11 to put the tie at 3-3.

It was experience and her calmness that salvaged the match for Odusanya with 11-7 to record an overall 4-3 win.

Also former champion Tolu Durosimmi-Eti was tested but she came through against Aliat Adedeji. Speaking with NationSport, Durosinmi-Eti believes Bose Odunsanya is her only threat saying:  “it will be a ‘50-50’ competition between both us.”

An unseeded Adedeji overwhelmed Durosimmi-Eti in the first game with 11-1 win but the experienced Durosimmi-Eti worked her way with 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 to record 4-1over her opponent.

Meanwhile, in  the women’s singles, Kosoko Wuraola fell to Anu Ajuwon at 2-11, 1-11, 3-11, 3-11.

Number three seed, Taiwo Williams was shown the door by unseeded Bose Oyeniyi with a 4-2 (5-11, 8-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11) win in the quarterfinal.
