FECAFOOT new boss Njoya vows to re-claim pride of place

Newly elected President of Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT),Seidou Mbombo Njoya, says he is determined to give the federation a better image.

He noted that the federation ignored ethics for a long time leading to a drift that caused the country a huge embarrassment.  Losing the hosting right for the 2019 Nations Cup according to him is a major image dent which demands that everything be done to redeem the lost image.

Seidou Mbombo Njoya, a former director of FIFA’s Central African sub-regional office was elected president of FECAFOOT by 46 votes ahead of his close rival, former Cameroon national football team goalkeeper, Joseph Antoine Bell.

Many believe there is light at the end of the tunnel for Cameroon, with Njoya’s election ending a 15-month period under a normalisation period set up by FIFA and CAF.

“After five years of crisis, enough is enough,” said the newly-installed president. “We have turned our backs on ethics for too long and the time has come to re-evaluate them.

“We have to do our best to rebuild and professionalise football and change governance and reclaim a place of pride” said Njola  a former development officer at FIFA and a member of CAF’s disciplinary committee under ex-president Issa Hayatou.

Cameroon was only recently stripped of the AFCON hosting rights. The Confederation of African Football, CAF, cited lack of preparation and insecurity in parts of the country for the move.

Njola’s re-building process is coming at a time when Indomitable Lionesses have picked their second qualification for the World cup in France.

The Cameroonian ladies who made their first world cup appearance at Canada 2015 crashing out in the round of 16 will be hoping to improve their lot at the 2019 edition in France.

African Women Nations Cup Champions Nigeria, runners up South Africa and third placed Cameroon will be flying Africa’s flag at the world cup in France.  Nigeria will battle Norway, Korea Republic and hosts France.
