FIBA AFROCAN: Nigeria lose second match 55-81 to DR Congo

The home based D’Tigers on Sunday lost their second straight match against DR Congo 55 – 81 in the ongoing FIBA AFROCAN Men’s basketball in Bamako, Mali

News Agency of Nigeria reports that the maiden edition of the competition is meant for local based players.

Nigeria had earlier on Saturday lost their opening match 69 – 81 to Kenya.

The D’Tigers are in group B with Kenya and DR Congo.

The newly introduced AFROCAN by FIBA Africa is meant to bridge the gap of the new system of Afrobasket which will now be held every four years.

The competition is designed to give hope to players plying their trade in Africa and also aid the growth of the various domestic leagues.

Top teams in the four groups book automatic quarterfinal tickets while the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will compete in qualifying rounds for a quarter final place.

NAN also reports that 12 African countries are battling for honours at the inaugural edition of the competition that runs from July 20 untill July 28.
