FIBA sends Nigeria’s D’Tigress packing from Women’s World Cup

The Nigeria Women’s senior Basketball team D’Tigress have been disqualified from competing at the FIBA World Cup.

FIBA expelled the team from the tournament, following the Federal Government’s involvement with the Federation.
Recalled Nigerian Government withdrew the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) from all international basketball competitions and activities for a period of two years.

The Government made the decision as a result of the leadership crisis rocking the Federation for the past four years.
FIBA however frowned at the decision and has now replaced Nigeria with Mali who finished next to Nigeria during the qualification ranking.

The FIBA Executive Committee has decided says : ”Nigeria’s withdrawal from the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 is confirmed Mali, as the next ranked team from Group B of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, is invited to participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.*

*“FIBA will announce whether there will be any other decisions related to the NBBF’s participation in other FIBA competitions and any potential disciplinary measures in due course.”*
