FIFA issues Super League threat

FIFA has come out against the idea of a European Super League, warning ‘any club or player involved would not be allowed’ into their tournaments.

The plan has regained momentum in recent months after the pandemic hit revenue all over the sector.

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, who is also head of the European Club Association, held a three-hour meeting with Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez this week in Turin, reportedly to discuss the European Super League idea.

UEFA have already been vocal in their opposition, but now FIFA are stepping in with a potentially decisive threat.

According to Marca, as reported by Football-Espana.net, they issued a notice warning “any club or player involved in such a competition, as a consequence, would not be allowed to participate in any competition organised by FIFA or its corresponding confederation.”

That effectively means they would bar players participating in the Super League from taking part in the World Cup.
