Firm to celebrate boxing excellence at 2025 awards
The Fight Gist Media Boxing Award schedule for March 31 at the National Stadium, surulere, Lagos will honour and celebrate local and international boxers who have delivered exceptional performances over the past year.
Organised by Fight Gist Media, a leading voice in Nigerian boxing coverage, the event will not only celebrate individual achievements but also highlight the crucial role of boxing in nurturing future champions.
In a statement ahead of the ceremony, the CEO of Fight Gist Media, Akinlade Abiodun Sunday highlighted the importance of celebrating Nigerian boxers and encouraging their progression to higher levels of competition.
“The Fight Gist Media Boxing Award represents more than just trophies and recognition; it is about acknowledging the hard work and sacrifice that goes into making a mark in boxing. Grassroots boxing is the foundation of Nigerian boxing’s future, and it’s crucial that we continue to support and celebrate these athletes,” the statement reads.
The ceremony will feature a range of competitive categories to reflect different aspects of boxing excellence.
Among the major awards to be presented on the night are the Boxer of the Year Award, which will honor the most outstanding boxer over the past year. Notable names in contention for this category include Taiwo Agbaje, Raheem Animashaun, Austin Nnamdi, amongst others
The Outstanding Boxer of the Year features Nigerian amateur boxers who represented the country at the All African Games in Accra, Ghana, claiming gold medals some of which are Adams Olaore, Ifeanyi Onyekwere, Ojo Joy, Patricia Mbata and Blessing Orakwe.
In recognition of the growing influence of digital media in shaping the sport’s visibility, the Social Media Influencer of the Year Award will also be introduced.
This award will celebrate an individual whose online presence and engagement have significantly contributed to promoting Nigerian boxing and inspiring fan interaction.
The Best Coach Award will reward the trainer whose work has had a significant impact on a boxer’s performance and growth.
Other special awardees include Mr. Reemy George, Mr Hilary D. Oyeka, Ms Edna Bolade Aiyegbeni, Mr. Chucks Uwaechia, Flykite Productions, Monarch Boxing Promotion, Onovwakpor Jude Vikosin (Babyboy Jood), De Lad’s Boxing Promotion, Mr Remi Aboderin, Mr Laguda Babatunde amongst others for their unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to promoting and advancing Nigerian boxing.
The event is expected to draw an impressive lineup of attendees, including former champions, boxing promoters, sports administrators, and influential figures from the Nigerian sports scene. Beyond the awards, the event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in strategic discussions on how to strengthen Nigeria’s boxing ecosystem, especially at the grassroots level.
