Foden set to earn eye-watering pay rise in mega contract

Manchester City superstar Phil Foden is poised to sign a new and improved deal worth almost £50m.

The England ace has been holding talks with the Premier League champions and is closing in a six-year deal worth £150,000-a-week.

Etihad chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has been determined to secure Foden’s long-term future after he emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents.

Foden penned a new deal in 2018 but since then has established himself in the England team and become an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s title winners.

The new contract is understood to have been agreed in principle before the international break and is expected to be confirmed in the next week.

Foden has attracted the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs but is a lifelong City fan and has no intention of leaving his hometown club.

Foden’s start to the new season was delayed due to the foot injury that ruled him out of England’s defeat to Italy on penalties in the Euro 2020 final.

Since returning to fitness he has been back to his best and scored a stunning goal in City’s thrilling 2-2 draw with title rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

Foden made his City debut in the Champions League in 2017 and has since gone on to make 130 appearances, scoring 33 goals, as well as earning 11 England caps.

Stockport-born Foden has won three Premier League titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup, as well as reaching last season’s Champions League final, which City lost to Chelsea.
