Forsberg backs Leipzig to hurt vulnerable City in C/League tie

RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg has backed his side to “hurt” Manchester City as they face off in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Bundesliga outfit have been handed a very difficult group in a competition they’d have fancied themselves to progress in.

They were drawn in Group A with Paris Saint-Germain, Club Brugge and Man City.

And Leipzig will open their Champions League group campaign at the Etihad, with their hosts the convincing favourites to win.

Speaking to The Athletic, Forsberg has said shock results are likely to happen in the competition and has emphasised how important Leipzig’s decision making will be on Wednesday night.

“We’ve seen these things happen before in football,” he said.

“Of course they will have a lot of the ball, they will play, they have good players up front.

“But if we know one thing about City it’s that they don’t like to play against sides who are good in transition. They’re vulnerable on the break.

“[After the Bayern defeat] we talked a lot about being more effective after winning the ball high up the pitch, making more of the opportunities that we could have created.

“If we take the right decisions at the right time, we have the quality to hurt them.”

Leipzig will do very well to advance to the knockout stages considering they share a group with two of the bookies’ favourites to win the competition.

Their last result was a disappointing one, losing 4-1 at home to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayern are currently 19 matches unbeaten away from home in Europe and Lewandowski has scored in each of his last 18 appearances (28 goals in total).
