Fury sends boxing fans Joshua unification fight warning

Tyson Fury has warned boxing fans his proposed heavyweight title unification fight with Anthony Joshua may not come to fruition in the near future.

The long-awaited Battle of Britain moved a giant step closer to becoming reality in February when Fury ended Deontay Wilder’s five-year reign as WBC heavyweight champion with a seventh-round TKO victory in Las Vegas.

Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, all that remained for Fury to share the ring with Joshua this year was for the pair to win their respective bouts with Wilder and Kubrat Pulev.

The global pandemic, however, has led to the postponements of both fights, which will take place in October and July respectively.

With Joshua vs Fury being within touching distance, boxing fans across the globe are giddy at the prospect of the pair sharing the ring early next year.

Fury, however, has warned those looking forward to the fight that Wilder could well and truly throw a spanner into the works in their trilogy fight.

“What happens if I get sparked out by Wilder in the rematch?” Fury asked.

Despite being wary of the serious threat the previously-undefeated Wilder poses, Fury is confident he’ll get past ‘The Bronze Bomber’ again.

And should he hand Wilder his second professional loss, ‘The Gypsy King’ foresees himself locking horns with Joshua twice in 2021.

He said: “If lockdown finishes and we get a vaccine and the world gets back to normal I can see two fights with Joshua next year.

“Assuming I get past Wilder, which is not a given.”

Fury’s trilogy fight with Wilder is expected to once again land in Las Vegas.

But with the uncertainty over the travel ban between the United States and the United Kingdom, his promoter Bob Arum has begun entertain offers from Australia and China.

Fury doesn’t have a preference for his third meeting with Wilder and insists he’ll fight the American anywhere.

“I can travel back to America, President Trump has lifted the athlete ban but people can’t travel,” he said.

“We’ll find a place we can have a live gate; I’ll fight once this year and it will be with a live audience.

“All these countries are trying to be big players so they want the biggest fights.

“I have a bag and I will travel. Most of my big fights haven’t been in the UK, they’ve been in Germany and America; wherever the fight takes place, I’ll be happy to travel there.”
