Gabon FA boss sets post covid-19 target for Aubameyang

If there is one thing Gabon FA boss Jean-Pierre Mounguengui will want to see compatriot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang do immediately after the covid-19 lockdown, it is to dump Arsenal for a more ambitious club.

As far as Mounguengui is concerned the 2015 African footballer of the year winner  is high quality player who should not only be playing with a more ambitious club but should be earning laurels for his hard work.

Gabon FA boss Jean-Pierre Mounguengui: He has got to move!

The Panthers of Gabon Captain moved to the Emirates Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 and has since become one of the life wires of the team posting impressive return with 61 goals in 97 appearances but yet to lay his hand on any trophy.  As if that is not enough finger biting experience the 31 year old is yet to play in the champions league as the Emirate landlords constantly fail to fly when it matters most.

Mounguengui believes that time is running out for Auba who is due to celebrate his 31st birthday on ,,,of June which coincides with one of the tentative dates being set for the re-sumption of the league after several weeks in the cooler due to coronavirus outbreak.

‘I don’t want to say that Arsenal aren’t ambitious, but Arsenal don’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned,’ Mounguengui told ESPN.

‘So if Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he’d definitely find his place there.

‘On an individual level, we all consider him to be among the best players in the world, but the advice I give to him is to continue to work and to attract the attention of the biggest clubs and the most ambitious clubs.’

Aubameyang is working under his third Arsenal manager now in Mikel Arteta, but they are currently eight points adrift of the top four, before the coronavirus crisis brought a sudden halt to the European game.

A return to the Champions League still appears unlikely, and Mounguengui added: ‘Aubameyang is a world-class player, but for him, or anyone else in Europe who hasn’t won a major honour, football is a collective sport.
