Galatasaray draw saddens Onyekuru after netting 12th league goal

Galatasaray forward, Henry Onyekuru says he was looking forward to victory against rivals Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig, but still remains delighted for picking a point in Sunday’s derby which has closed the gap on leaders  Istanbul Basaksehir.

The match ended 1-1 with Onyekuru returning to scoring ways after he was in the right place to head home a well taken cross from Sofiane Feghouli after the hour mark to increase his number of goals to 12 this season.

“A draw with one of our biggest rivals away from home. Although we have to share a point today, the battle is not over and we will continue on our journey! 🦁 ❤💛,” he tweeted after the match.

Onyekuru was up against fellow Nigeria international, Victor Moses as Galatasaray battled to secure their first away win over Fenerbahce  who did more of the defending throughout the encounter.

Galatasaray’s celebrations were however shortlived when Eljif Elmass struck in the 71st minute after Onyekuru had given the defending champions the lead to make sure both sides settled for a point.

Fenerbahce played with 10 men following the sending off of Hassan Al Kaldirim in the 45th minute for a professional foul.

The draw still leaves Galatasaray second with 56 points, five points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir which lost away at Besiktas on Saturday.
