Garba Lawal cautions Rohr to field strong team against Madagascar

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal has told Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr to guard against rotating the squad in the final Group B tie of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Sunday at the Alexandria Stadium, Egypt.

The Eagles have won the two games they have played at the ongoing AFCON but Lawal noted that with the way
Madagascar have played in their two previous matches too, they must not be joked with because of it
is important for the senior national team to end the group stage as winners to live up to their pre-tournament
tag as one of the seeded teams during the draw.

He said even though the Eagles beat both Burundi and Guinea by the odd goal each, they are still far from
convincing and that the Barea of Madagascar from the games they have played have shown that they won’t
be any easy opponents.

“I don’t think I will admonish the Eagles to field a second team against Madagascar because of the danger of being shocked by a team that have done well in the games they have played,” Lawal told SportingLife.ng

“I want to task the technical crew of the  Eagles to ensure that they play a strong side to ensure that they finish the group as winners and also remain in Alexandria for stability ahead of their second-round game from next week.

I have watched both matches played by Madagascar and I dare to state that they won’t be run over by the Eagles. They are unbeaten after two games and have shown in both games that they can stage an upset.”

The ex-midfielder pointed out that even though the Eagles have not been at their best in both games that have
shown the team spirit and the eagerness to grind out positive results even amidst difficult situations.

But he challenged the Eagles to use third group game on Sunday to correct some of the errors noticed in the
earlier played games ahead of the knock out round which starts next week.
