Gawuna redeems cash promise to Kano Pillars

Kano State Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna on Tuesday redeemed his cash gift promised to the players of Kano Pillars for reaching the final of this year’s AITEO CUP competition.

Gawuna, who was at the team’s training session on Tuesday morning at the Sani Abacha Stadium, expressed government appreciation to the team and assured them that they will receive “something tangible” if they win the Aiteo Cup trophy for the first time in their 28-year history.

Sai Masu Gida defeated Katsina United 4-1 on penalties in the semi-final clash at the Agege Stadium last Wednesday, to set up a final clash with Rangers International FC of Enugu slated for Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba next Wednesday.

Gawuna gave the sum of fifty thousand naira to the club’s goalkeeper David Obiazo, who he named as the Most Valuable Player in the game against Katsina United while the sum of two hundred thousand naira was given to the rest of the team.

He promised them that the government will do everything within its reach to ensure that they have the best of preparation for the final clash.

Gawuna, who also doubles as the President of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), also promised the team that they would be airlifted to their training camp in Benin City for proper preparation for the game.

“We are very proud of your achievement and we are solidly behind you,” Gawuna said.  “You will get something tangible when you win the cup and you will be proud to have been associated with Kano Pillars.”
