Gerrard confirms Balogun’s injury ahead Livingston match

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that Nigeria international Leon Balogun won’t be available for this weekend’s Scottish Premiership game against Livingston due to injury.

The 32-year-old defender has made three starts for the Ibrox side after joining last month on a one-year contract with a further year’s option from the English side Wigan.

However, it was the last game against St Johnstone this week that led to Balogun’s injury after playing for just 46 minutes.

“Leon Balogun won’t be available for the weekend, he has a small quad problem and we are waiting on results from a scan,” said the Gers boss at a pre-match conference.

“Filip Helander played great at the weekend and George Edmundson had a great pre-season so I will make a decision at the weekend.”

This is a concerning update regarding Balogun as it’s not just the weekend game that he’ll be missing but an estimated return date is pending the results of this scan.

The Nigeria international was named in the Scottish Team of The Week after hitting the ground running at Ibrox.

Hopefully he won’t be out for long, as he’s already staking a big claim for being one of the first names on Gerrard’s clean sheet.
