SportingLife.ng reports that the Sky Blue Stars began their campaign at the 6th edition of the Nigeria’s most elaborate pre-season tournament on a winning note by defeating Nationwide League One side Phoenix ASC 2-0 at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure on Friday.

Osho in a chat with SportingLife.ng said: “We know the quality Rivers United posses, playing against them on Saturday will be a big test for my players.

“It will also give us an ideal of what to expect when we meet them in the coming season and prepare us for the NNL Super8 Play-offs.”

On the Sky Blues Stars 2-0 victory over Phoenix ACF of Ekiti, Osho, popularly called ‘Sugar’ by his players and fans said: “Wining our first game here in Akure is good omen for us compared to the Ilorin edition.

“I started a team that played the season in the Nigeria National League (NNL) unlike in the last edition which was used as dress rehearsal for the new players that were invited.”
Osho stressed further that his players will make the most of the goals scoring chances that come their way against Stanley Eguma led Rivers United on Saturday.

“Despite dominating the game against Phoenix, we should have scored more goals but we had two.
“The positive with this platform, Gold Cup Tourney, it’s a learning curve for teams to know their strengths and weaknesses.

“For me, I give kudos to my players for creating much chances, it shows we’re getting better.
“We will go back and have a pep talk with the players as we prepare ahead of our tie against Rivers United,” Osho told SportingLife.ng.
