Golden Eaglets react to Nigeria’s exit from U17 World Cup

. Fault VAR decision for low morale

Golden Eaglets captain Samson Tijani has taken a huge step on behalf of squad members after Nigeria’s exit from the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.

The Manu Garba’s side suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Wednesday night, November 6, to see the five-time champions’ end their campaign in Brazil.

Speaking with Lagos-based Brila FM, Tijani, who netted twice during their stay in the tournament, stressed the Eaglets were unlucky against very good opposition.

“We are very sorry; we as a team to the entire Nigerians. We tried our best but the result was down to hard-luck coupled with the fact that our opponents are a very good side.

“I want to thank my teammates also, we all put our best but that’s how far God said we can go in this tournament.

“Our team had to succumb to the pressure from our opponent, we tried to calm the pressure and we were able to achieve that until the dying minutes where VAR had to suppress us with that penalty.

“That alone weakened our morale and it is already late for a comeback at that minute,” Tijani submitted.
