Gondarenda, Salam promise boxing fans epic bout

Champion Chomunorwa ‘Sting’ Gondarenda and challenger Tony ‘Sugar’ Salam has promised boxing fans an epic bout when they meet tomorrow (Friday) for the WBF Africa Cruiserweight Title at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos

Salam and Gondarenda fought in August to a disputed decision in Harare where Gondarenda retained his belt on a split decision. Immediately after the fight Gondarenda said that he would fight Salam again, “any time any place,” this time it will be in Salam’s backyard with neutral judges agreed by both camps.
The fight is a contrast of styles with Gondarenda the come forward fighter, and Salam the slick counter puncher, fighting often on the back foot. Salam will need to be more definitive in his approach, he clearly landed the cleaner blows, but it was the Zimbabwean champion’s relentless aggression and ring control that perhaps swayed the judges during their first match
The champion said he is in Nigeria to beat Salam in his backyard and urged Nigerians to come out and see how he will beat the home boy
He said that Salam was lucky to escape a knock out the last promising that he would not be lucky this time.
Salam, who is still at a loss as to how he lost in Harare in the first bout, warned the champion he was coming for the title. He said his opponent will not escape a knock out tomorrow.
The Friday night boxing dubbed Chaos in Lagos is packaged by Kwese and Kolanda Boxing Promotion.
