Guardiola Named Premier League Manager for April

Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League manager of the month for April as his Manchester City side hone in on back-to-back Premier League titles.

The Spaniard guided his side to victory in all five of their fixtures during the month, including vital victories over Tottenham and local rivals Manchester United.

It is the second time he has been awarded the accolade this season, and his seventh since taking the reigns at Manchester City in 2016.

Posing with the award on Tuesday morning, Guardiola chose to accept his award with all his backroom staff present.

On his official Twitter page, Guardiola tweeted: ‘An all-inclusive award for the staff. Thank you!’

City need just one more win to lift the Premier League title after squeezing past Leicester City on Monday night.

Captain Vincent Kompany scored the only goal – a howitzer from 30 yards out – to give them the upper hand over Liverpool going into the final weekend.

Guardiola, though, took aim at the media following the victory, saying he felt his side have been portrayed as the unpopular choice to lift the title again.

People in the media desire Liverpool to win the title. So I am sorry for the people that it’s in our hands,’ Guardiola told talkSPORT.

‘Liverpool are playing without pressure because it’s not in their hands,’ Guardiola added. ‘We have the pressure because it’s in our hands.

‘One game left and we’ll try. It is now 95 points and we need one more victory. We’ll go to Brighton trying. I don’t have to say anything to the players because they are mature.

‘Brighton will be tough. They went to Arsenal and got a result. We played them in the FA Cup and that was tough because they are strong, have the set pieces, and I know they’re playing for pride.

‘But it’s in our hands. We were seven points behind and never gave up. We won 13 games in a row and that’s why we are in that position.’
