Harry Kane goes on strike to force Tottenham exit

Harry Kane did not report back to Tottenham this morning, as the striker stepped up his attempts to secure a transfer to Manchester City.

Kane was due to return to Spurs this morning for Covid testing following an extended break after the European Championship but chose not to show up, suggesting he is effectively ready to go on strike to force his way out of the club.

Kane is determined to leave Spurs this summer and believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy to allow him to go for the right price.

Kane wants to join City, who have already indicated that they would be willing to pay £100million plus players in part-exchange for the England captain.

Spurs’s position remains unchanged, however, with the club insisting the 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract, is not for sale.

Spurs are closing in on agreeing a fee with Atalanta, thought be around £47m, for Argentine centre-half Christian Romero.

The 23-year-old would be the club’s second most expensive transfer after Tanguy Ndombele and their third signing of the summer, after Bryan Gil from Sevilla and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on a loan deal.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen are among eight clubs Tottenham could face in the Europa Conference League play-off round, with the draw this afternoon.
