Henry in contention to replace Setien as Barcelona manager

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, is among a list of candidates who could become the next Barcelona boss.

The Catalans are due to hold an emergency meeting after they were embarrassingly dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

Head coach Quique Setien watched on as his team shipped eight goals against the German side and his eight-month tenure is set to end in the coming days.

It leaves Barcelona looking for a second manager in 2020 after sacking Ernesto Valverde in January.

The Spanish giants have often looked to appoint a man ingrained in their footballing philosophy and Henry would fit that mould.

He moved to the Nou Camp in 2007 and was part of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning side in 2009.

Since going into management he has often used the former Barcelona boss as a reference point and is currently in charge of MLS side Montreal Impact.

He lasted just over three months as Monaco boss before being axed but is on a list of names that also includes Mauricio Pochettino, Ronald Koeman and Massimiliano Allegri, reports Sport

Pochettino is thought to be the favourite but his connections with cross city rivals Espanyol would affect his popularity.

The Argentine previously said he would never take charge at the Nou Camp but has recently backtracked on such comments.

He was shown the door by Tottenham in November despite a successful spell that saw him play an attractive brand of football that would be welcomed at Barcelona.

Koeman is another former player who has long been touted with the hot seat.

The Dutchman scored the winning goal as Barcelona conquered Europe for the first time under Johan Cruyff in 1992.

Allegri has been without a job since leaving Juventus in 2019 but oversaw a hugely successful period in Turin.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique called on the club to make changes following their European nightmare and confessed he may have played his last game for the Catalans.
