Homesick Palace star Zaha is considering international future

Wilfred Zaha has asked not be called up to the Ivory Coast this month and is considering his international future, according to his national boss.

The Elephants chief Patrice Beaumelle claimed Crystal Palace’s superstar feels he returns ‘sick’ after each call-up to his country.

Zaha, 28, missed Palace’s 2-2 draw at Arsenal last month through illness following an international victory over Malawi.

Beaumelle said: “He asked not to come because he comes home sick at each meeting.

“He wants to reflect on the rest of his international career.”

The Ivory Coast are due to play World Cup qualifiers this month as they look to cement their place at Qatar 2022.

They host Mozambique on November 13 before travelling to Cameroon three days later.

Zaha won two caps for England before switching allegiances in 2016 to the country of his birth, for whom he has 21 caps and five goals.

He has not scored for his country in over two years, last netting against DR Congo in October 2019.

That’s in stark contrast to the stunning form he’s shown at Palace in recent years.

He has already netted three times in nine Premier League appearances so far this season.

Last Sunday he called on social media companies to take their responsibility to ending online abuse seriously.

His demands came after he revealed yet more vile racist abuse sent his way following Palace’s unexpected victory over Manchester City.
