How Alisson errors cost Liverpool against Man City

Alisson Becker had a night to forget as Liverpool suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

The result leaves Liverpool sitting 10 points behind City, who also have a game in hand.

The city had a chance to go ahead in the first-half but Ilkay Gundogan skied his penalty over the bar, following Fabinho’s challenge on Raheem Sterling.

But the German-made amends by scoring City’s first four minutes into the first half.

Mohamed Salah then equalised for Liverpool from the penalty spot just after the hour after he was hauled back by Ruben Dias.

But two costly errors from Alisson ended Liverpool’s chances of taking anything away from the game.

The Brazilian’s poor clearance was punished by Phil Foden, who set up Gundogan to score his second before a diabolical pass straight to Bernardo Silva allowed him to set up Raheem Sterling to City’s third.

Foden then capped off his wonderful performance with a rasping finish past the hapless Alisson.

It was Pep Guardiola’s first win at Anfield as City manager, as well as the club’s first win at the ground since 2003.

The Sky Blues are now five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have now lost three straight games at Anfield and their schedule does not get any easier.

Jurgen Klopp’s side next face Leicester City in a vital clash for their top-four chances, before taking on RB Leipzing in the Champions League and the Merseyside derby.
