How I blew $150,000 on a night after pay rise-Richards

Micah Richards has revealed that he once spent $150,000 on a night out in Los Angeles after getting a huge reward in Manchester City as a 19-year-old.

Richards, now one sports post columnist and pundit on BBC and Sky Sports, went through Manchester City’s academy and made his first-team debut at the age of 17.

But as he explains to Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on the Match of the Day Top 10 podcast, Richards admits the riches came a little too soon when he knocked down tools.

“I got a little too much too soon, so you use your tools a little bit,” he said.

“And I’m not afraid to say so, because you know the papers will document it. I went from £5,000 a week to £50,000 a week. From 18 to 19! That’s what I mean!’

A stunned Lineker and Shearer listened in as Richards continued: ‘So I’m at £2.5 million years. This is the late 2000s. I went from £500 to £5,000 a week and it was fully earned at the time.

Lineker then asks, “Do you think that because it came to you, you soon didn’t grow up enough to handle it well and got a little off the rails as a result?”

The ex-Manchester City and England defender said: “I haven’t spent money and wasted it because I have a lot of property. It was different, because you go out and you buy everyone, you want to be the man, the man in town.

“I went to LA once and honestly we spent $150,000 in one night! Honestly, just drink and have fun.

Premier League record scorer Shearer has his head in his hands right now before joking: ‘That must have been one hell of a hangover!’

Lineker, grinning, then says, “That’s a lot of drinking. I’m not sure I want to know what the right time was. Actually I don’t think so!’
